2020-21 Snooker Season

Because of the ongoing effects of Coronavirus, please note the following changes regarding next season

  • To allow all clubs to fully reopen, the season will commence later than usual, on Tuesday 6th October 2020.
  • The AGM will now be on Wednesday 9th September (7:30pm) and will be at Cheyne Walk (Far Cotton is yet to open). Please come along or notify someone in order to enter your team(s) for the season.
  • All snooker fees will be scrapped for last season (A free season)

Obviously, no one knows if there will be a resurgence of the virus later this year. All we can do is proceed on the basis that games can go ahead.

2019-20 season – COVID update

This past week, the government has agreed to allowing snooker to be played again, subject to the clubs and players following safe guidelines.

There are only a few weeks before the start of the season in September. Also, the guidelines stipulate singles matches only, and so we have decided to only continue with the singles tournaments for the current season.

The League will now finish as it currently stands, while the Team Championship and pairs competition are to be abandoned.

We will be encouraging the singles matches to be played as soon as possible, and the current plan is to hold the semi-finals and finals of both the Town Cup and the Non-Winners Trophy on set dates at Cheyne Walk where safety can be observed.

2019-20 Season

This week, I’ve had a couple of people ask me about what is happening with the present snooker season.
Frankly, we don’t know.

Pubs and clubs can reopen from the 4th of July. However, it’s for drinks and food only.
As I understand it, it’s table service only, and you have to give your name and details so that you can be traced should anyone present later test positive for the virus.

There are to be no indoor games.
The WPBSA have written to the government about that and have received a negative response:

This restriction will be lifted at some point in time.
When we know when that is, then a decision can be made about what to do with the current season. Unfortunately, it’s unlikely to be anytime soon.

All the best,
Clive.

Season Halted

In line with latest government advice, we are halting the current snooker season with immediate effect. No further matches are to be played until advised.

Coronavirus

While there are no immediate plans to stop the league and snooker competitions, we are closely watching this fast-changing situation and will advise accordingly.
The government could well decide to close all clubs and pubs at anytime, and then we will have to put the season on hold.
I’ve consulted with Adam and Ron today and am awaiting their thoughts.
